Complete Prayer Guide

Learn how to perform Salah (Islamic prayer) with step-by-step instructions and visual guides.

Before You Begin

Ensure you have performed ablution (wudu), are wearing clean and modest clothes, and are facing the direction of the Kaaba (Qiblah).

1. Intention

Make the intention in your heart for the specific prayer you are about to perform.

Face the Qiblah direction and make your intention to pray the specific prayer (e.g., Fajr, Dhuhr, etc.).

2. Takbir

Raise your hands to your ears and say 'Allahu Akbar' (Allah is the Greatest).

Stand straight with shoulders relaxed, raise your hands to your ears or shoulders, and say 'Allahu Akbar' clearly.

3. Standing

Place your right hand over your left on your chest and recite the opening supplication followed by Surah Al-Fatiha.

Right hand over left hand on chest. Recite the opening supplication (Subhanaka), then Surah Al-Fatiha, followed by another surah or verses.

4. Bowing

Bow down with your back parallel to the ground, placing hands on knees, and saying 'Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem' three times.

Bow from the waist, with back straight and horizontal. Place hands on knees with fingers spread. Look at the place of prostration.

5. Standing from Bowing

Return to the standing position while saying 'Sami Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal hamd'.

Return to standing position completely, with arms at sides, saying the prescribed remembrance.

6. Prostration

Prostrate with your forehead, nose, palms, knees, and toes touching the ground, saying 'Subhana Rabbiyal A'la' three times.

Forehead and nose touch the ground. Hands flat on ground with fingers together. Elbows raised off floor, knees on floor, toes pointing to Qiblah.

7. Sitting Between Prostrations

Sit briefly between the two prostrations, saying 'Rabbi ghfir li, Rabbi ghfir li' (My Lord, forgive me).

Sit on left foot with right foot upright. Hands rest on knees with fingers pointing forward. Stay in this position for a moment of calmness.

8. Final Sitting

In the final sitting, recite At-Tahiyyat, Salawat Ibrahim, and supplications before ending the prayer.

Sit on left foot with right foot upright. Recite At-Tahiyyat while raising index finger during testimony of faith. Then recite Salawat Ibrahim and make personal supplications.

9. Final Salam

End the prayer by turning your face right saying 'Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah', then left repeating the same.

Turn head to right shoulder saying the Salam, then to left shoulder repeating the same. This marks the end of the prayer.
